Sycamore Class
Fabulous Forces
This half term Sycamore have turned their classroom into a Space lab. We visited the In-Tech Science Centre in Winchester to experience the Planetarium and enjoyed taking part in lots of interactive activities to explore forces.

In Mission teams we launched a rocket and designed parachute landers to land on the surface of Mars. Our talc homework this term is to design a mars Rover to explore Mars.
Mars Lander
Navigators must safely launch and land Spirit and Opportunity onto precise targets on the surface of Mars. In only 6 minutes, the spacecraft must slow down from an incredible speed of 12,000mph to nearly zero.
How? The parachute provides the majority of breaking action by generating air resistance.
There is a critical speed that the Lander needs to ‘touch down’. Too fast and the rover may be damaged and be useless. Too slow and the cross winds on Mars will steer the Lander away from the landing site. It may land in a crater and be lost forever!
Your Mission
Using the materials provided your team must design and build a Mars Lander that will land a fragile payload onto the landing site.
Launch commences on
Requirements
The rovers need to exit the Lander when they reach the surface of Mars. You MUST be able to take the egg out of the Lander without the use of cutting tools.
