MFL progression of skills
French day - 16th June
Today we celebrated all things French as our chosen MFL language. The day started off with a song in French in assembly and the prize giving for our Home - model making - challenge. The models were 'magnifique' and truly impressive! we had a vast range of French architecture and buildings and the children had been very creative in their ideas and choice of materials.
The children then took part in a variety of French themed activities. Some classes learnt about a famous French artist and then created some artwork of their own inspired by these artists.
We were lucky enough to have some stories read to us in French. We had a lovely mother and daughter bilingual story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar read in French and translated into English.
We had a visit from Mrs Aspinall who told us all about the French culture and had us making animal noises in French! She answered our prepared questions very well and we all learnt lots about life in France.
Throughout the day, the children participated in some traditional French games including: boules, French cricket and hopscotch. They were heard putting their great counting in French skills into action.
I think the highlight of the day was the visit to our 'pop up' café - Le Café Croissant. Each class had a Parisian style experience when they visited and were served by our very professional year 6 team of waiters and waitresses. They were served French food and drink and were entertained by the team in French and were even treated to a dance performance! Thanks team, you all did a magnificent job and were given a 5* review on trip advisor!
I think all of our children will agree, they had a great day and learnt lots about the French culture.
Thank you all for dressing up, making models and participating fully in our French day!
Classroom displays throughout KS2 are looking bright and informative. The children are now using a variety of phrases and can confidently greet one another. They have been learning some new vocabulary following the trail of labels located in various places around the classrooms and school.
This term we are introducing our KS2 children to French through our new scheme of work - 'Early start French'.
The children will not only be learning the language, but will also be given an insight into the French culture through video clips, photos and songs etc.
Over the past couple of weeks Year 5 have been looking at where exactly France is. We saw how near to England France is at its closest point. We looked at some aerial maps of England and France. We discussed possible ways of getting there including swimming! We then thought about what we would see on arriving in France. We had a little taster of some typically French food while we were thinking about this. We all agreed that brioche, baguettes and Boursin cheese are very tasty!
